Specialty Pharmacy Intern

Part Time • Fargo, ND, 58102
Primary Objective: To assist in completion of prescription orders to ensure high levels of customer service. Follow company strategies to increase service levels to patients and support to local pharmacies and medical providers.
 
Responsibilities:
·         Answer phone appropriately, timely and understands which calls must be handled by the pharmacist.
·         Maintain prescription information to ensure accurate records.
·         Clearly and professionally communicates with all parties involved including prescribers and other medical staff.
·      Follow Confidentiality of Information policy.
·         Input prescription information on computer for accurate transmission to insurance companies and/or computer service.  
·         Clarify prescription orders with prescriber and/or pharmacist as applicable.
·         Correctly identifies proper billing quantities and day supply for specialty products.
·         Completes full benefits investigation and calls third party plans when necessary to facilitate proper billing. 
·         Coordinates prior authorization approval and renewal and follows approval process throughout while providing continuous updates to stakeholders. 
·         Facilitates financial assistance for patients. Monitors and confirms patient eligibility and that all required documentation and reporting is completed to ensure payment.
·         Checks with our suppliers on availability and procurement of medications prescribed.
·         Understand troubleshooting of 3rd party plans and billing of Medicare B and D properly including necessary paperwork requirements.
·         Follows guidelines and knows when to submit prescriptions to another pharmacy based on product availability, insurance requirements, and reimbursement. 
·         Contacts patients via phone to coordinate refills, checks the need for ancillary supplies, and schedules delivery accordingly. 
·         Assist in the filling of prescription orders. Identifies medications requiring special storage and/or handling such as refrigerated and/or hazardous medications.
·         Reviews routing and correct shipping method to ensure prescription arrives in expected condition and in a timely, accurate, and trackable manner. 
·         Prepares prescriptions for shipment via UPS or local courier service. 
·         Understand how the Specialty, Ready Refill, Rx MedSync and HPRx services work and explains the services to patients who might be interested in it.
·         Maintain flexibility in new or changing work roles and the modification of job responsibilities as required.
·         Willingness to help anywhere in the store or surrounding stores as needed.  
·         Able to adjust to new programs according to leadership guidance
·         Support Central Fill operations in other departments as needed
·      Ensure cubicles are dusted and floors are vacuumed regularly

·         Ability to read and converse fluently in English
·         Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately
·         Ability to handle stressful situations and deal successfully with difficult personalities.
·         Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and supervisors.
·         Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.  
·         Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays 
·         Punctual attendance is required in order to fulfill the essential job functions.
·         Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
·         Has current intern license with the North Dakota State Board of Pharmacy 
·         Willingly aids in cross training of other employees.
·         Maintains a well-groomed personal appearance in accordance with company guidelines to present a professional image of the store.
